School's back in session

Sun Aug 17, 2008, 6:53 PM
Well, after a fun summer, school is finally back in session. This is the first time, since about 6th grade or so, that I can remember NOT majorly crushing on a girl as the year is starting and progressing. It's an interesting feeling, and allows me to do my work in peace and quiet.

Now, let us not go saying that I have become disinterested, because that's not true. I just haven't found one that I particularly like. Fortunately, however, quite a few of my classes (English, World History, and AP Chem) have quite a few girls in there, so it's not like I am completely out of touch with girls.

Here's an overview of all my classes this year:
English 11/World Literature:
It beats the hell out of AP Lang. I see it as a blow-off class. There isn't a lot to do in there, but Mrs. Pettus asked us what we expect of her, and she reads everything we say, and one of the particular questions was "What was your favorite book?" I was hard-pressed to come up with an answer because the last book I read cover to cover was To Kill A Mockingbird. Since then, I have only read excerpts from The Art of Deception and The Art of Intrusion (both are EXCELLENT books). So, with those titles of which no one has ever heard, I am not sure if she will pick the right books which I would enjoy reading. Maybe she'll find something I like, but I am not much of a reader.

Advanced Pre-Calc/Trig. with Engle is a bit interesting. I get a feeling that Engle loves to hate me. It's not like I don't bring it upon myself, though. He and I are both smartasses, and I guess it'll be like this for the rest of the year. Oh well. I am already learning quite a bit in that class. The class itself is FULL of Sophomores (one of which lives down the street from me). The other people I know in that class are Jen and Sarah. Both are interesting in their own ways.

AP Computer Science A with Riggs isn't going to be as fun this year. For one thing, Riggs doesn't necessarily like me too much. He's already talking about a enforcing a seating chart, which definitely isn't good, especially if I get stuck to Bailey again (last year was enough of a problem as it is. I do not like her).

Lunch is alright, but Mark is being an asshole to me again, which just kinda takes the humorous side away from him and sometimes makes me wonder why I am even friends with him. He can be such a relentless, remorseless, stubborn asshole, and if I fuck up and say one thing incorrectly, he'll make me feel like an absolute idiot over it. He cuts me off all the time, but hates it when I cut him off. It's so fucking hypocritical. The rest of the lunch kids are cool, like Cale, Christian, Patrick, etc. They're all pleasant people...but Mark is just an ass sometimes (which is part of the reason why I just don't want to talk to him anymore).

Welding is an amazing class. Mr. Cook is possibly the funniest teacher I have had throughout high school. 15 minutes of just bashing Parker Williams over all the stupid shit he did last year (Parker doesn't have the class with me, but he steps in all the time during his lunch break). He always asks kids about their home lives and gives them nicknames, swears in class, gives us "life lessons". One of the greatest classes I could have chosen.

AP Chem is alright. As I have said earlier, there are quite a few girls in there. Nunnelee seems very knowledgeable about the subject, and I do feel like I can learn a SHITLOAD in that class. I am not sure about the homework load, however.

Last but not least, World History. Moeller doesn't assign homework assignments. Instead, she assigns us sections of a chapter (5 to 10 pages versus 15-20 pages per night from APUSH), and then might quiz us the next day over what we learned. Other things are like vocabulary tests, and 4 Unit tests this quarter (EASY!). I am going to get a high B or low A in this class. Definitely a GPA saver (along with English, Welding, and possibly AP Comp Sci A).

I am willing to bet that my homework load is not going to be nearly as bad as last years. Definitely some nightly reading from the AP Chem book, some books from English, and World History. But still, that's not nearly as bad as last year, where I had to balance 20 to 30 pages a night of APUSH, read shitty books from the Pre-AP English 10 department, and read a chemistry book. Throw an unstable relationship into last year's mess, and you'll understand why my grades went down the shitter.

This year's going to be better though. Good teachers, low workloads, good classes. It's going to be an easier year for me...I can almost feel it.
